HEALTHCARE (20%)
At GAIL, we believe that a healthy mind and a healthy body are fundamental to the growth of the country. But good health does not come easily. It requires the kind of care that only a professional team can provide. GAIL makes sure this happens, by organizing camps, through NGOs, to provide free consultation and medicines, undertaking vaccination programmes, extending financial support to and augmenting the facilities of dispensaries and hospitals.
We also seek to undo the harmful impact of polluting fuels and to prevent air pollution for taking a heavy toll of human health a superior detection mechanism is placed by setting up of Air Pollution Related Disease Diagnostic Centres (APRDC) in 20 highly polluted cities in India. These APRDDCs diagnose and treat pulmonary and cardio-vascular ailments arising out of air pollution. To improve the quality of air in these cities, we have implemented or are in the process of implementing the 'Blue Sky Project', offering CNG/PNG solutions to more polluting fuels. APRDC will be rolled out to 4 more cities in the year 2005-06. Thousands of poor and underprivileged people are benefiting from the facilities provided through APRDC.
APRDC will also become the repository of data related to the occurrence and prevalence of respiratory diseases, and the status of such diseases before and after introduction of CNG/PNG. This data will be shared with appropriate authorities to advocate the case for moving towards natural gas, the cleanest of the fossil fuels and least harmful to the environment and human beings.
