Advancing Sustainability and Climate Goals
In alignment with India’s commitment to Net Zero by 2070, GAIL is actively advancing its roadmap to achieve operational net zero by 2040.
At the forefront of India’s hydrogen journey, GAIL has commissioned a state-of-the-art 10 MW Green Hydrogen plant at Vijaipur (Madhya Pradesh), with a production capacity of 4.3 tonnes per day. The plant uses advanced electrolysis technology powered by renewable energy to produce green hydrogen—an environmentally friendly fuel with near-zero emissions.
Green hydrogen, produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using clean energy sources such as solar and wind, offers immense potential across sectors including transportation, refining, steel, and power. With its non-toxic nature and rapid dispersal characteristics, hydrogen is also a safe and efficient fuel when supported by robust engineering systems.
GAIL’s foray into Hydrogen will help achieve The National Hydrogen Mission’s target of producing 5 MMT Green Hydrogen per annum by 2030 reducing fossil fuel imports to the tune of ₹ 1 lakh crore. Additionally, nearly 50 MMT per annum of CO2 emissions are expected to be averted.
At GAIL, our green hydrogen production plant stands tall as a beacon of hope, acting as a catalyst to achieving our Net Zero and SDG goals, carbon neutral planet, and environment preservation.
